Our Story

Hello! We are Brady and Rachel Summerlin, and we arrived in Alaska in 2014 thanks to the military. It didn’t take us long to decide that Alaska would be an amazing place to start and raise our family, and so we sunk our roots in Sutton, AK in 2017 once Brady left military service.

Though we didn’t grow up completely severed from agriculture, we consider ourselves 1st-generation farmers. Our farming journey began with a small herd of dairy goats and few horses on three acres of land, and with the hand of Providence, guidance from mentors, and lessons learned the hard way, we have grown to 30 acres of land, a small herd of dairy cows, a flock of sheep, quite a few chickens, and still some horses.

We officially founded the Abundant Life Farm in 2022 with the intent to share what we’ve learned, as well as some produce, with our community both near and far. Keeping everyday life as ‘normal” as possible for our children through the duration and aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic was a huge part of our motivation to increase our food production abilities. The following few years of our journey placed a burden on our hearts to use our land to not only educate others seeking to live a life more connected to the land, but also as a place that people could come for healing, rest, and revival.

Meet the crew

Rachel Summerlin, aka “Mama”

Rachel is the face of the farm and provides much of the “giddy-up” needed to keep this place growing. A deep love for God, her family, and coffee keeps her moving forward each and every day. Rachel has a strong passion for developing a caring, committed community and connecting people back to their local food sources.
